FAQ
If your question isn’t listed here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ll be happy to discuss your specific needs and how I can help
What is hand therapy?
Hand therapy is the specialist rehabilitation of the hand, wrist, and upper limb following injury, surgery, or long-term conditions. It combines techniques from occupational therapy and physiotherapy — such as exercise, splinting, scar care, and education — to restore function, reduce pain, and improve daily performance.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can self-refer directly by email or phone. I also accept referrals from GPs, consultants, and other health professionals.

How long is an appointment?
Initial assessments last up to 90 minutes. Follow-up sessions are typically 30–45 minutes depending on your needs and treatment plan.

Where are sessions held?
I offer home visits and remote consultations (telephone or video) throughout Surbiton and the surrounding Surrey area.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring any relevant letters, scans, X-rays, or reports relating to your condition, along with your referral information if you have it.

What happens during an assessment?
I’ll take time to understand your history, symptoms, and goals. This may include observing your movement, measuring strength or range of motion, and identifying what’s limiting your function. From there, I’ll develop a tailored treatment plan and discuss expected outcomes.

Do you provide splints?
Yes. I can fabricate custom splints using thermoplastic or neoprene materials, designed specifically for your condition and comfort.

Can you work alongside my surgeon or physio?
Absolutely. I often liaise with consultants, physiotherapists, and GPs to ensure that your rehabilitation plan is cohesive and in line with your post-operative or medical protocol.
How do I pay?
Payment is made on the day of your session by cash or bank transfer. Invoices or receipts can be provided on request.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations may incur a 50% session fee as outlined in the clinic’s terms and conditions.

Do you treat conditions other than hand injuries?
Yes. In addition to hand and wrist therapy, I provide occupational therapy for upper limb and functional issues — such as fatigue, pain management, and adapting to daily activities or returning to work.

Can you help me get back to work or hobbies?
Yes. I can assess the physical and practical aspects of your job or leisure activities, offer ergonomic advice, and plan a graded return to work or meaningful activities.

Is online therapy effective?
Yes. Many clients find virtual sessions convenient and successful, especially for exercise progression, education, and self-management guidance. I’ll always advise when in-person therapy would be more suitable.

Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. All records are stored securely and handled in accordance with HCPC and GDPR regulations. Your information will never be shared without your consent.
