Hello
I’m Liz Gwynne, a registered Occupational Therapist and member of the British Association of Hand Therapists (Level II accredited).

I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2009 and hold an earlier degree in Health and Psychology, which has shaped my holistic approach to rehabilitation — recognising that recovery is as much about emotional wellbeing and confidence as it is about physical function.

I began specialising in hand and upper limb therapy in 2012 after discovering a passion for the art and science of restoring movement, independence, and dexterity. My clinical background includes working within Trauma and Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Rheumatology, and Neurology across NHS and private sectors.

In addition to my clinical work, I have experience in case management, supporting individuals recovering from life-changing injuries. This has deepened my understanding of how physical, psychological, vocational, and social factors interact in rehabilitation — ensuring that treatment plans are comprehensive, realistic, and truly person-centred.

I work with both adults and younger clients, providing therapy that is evidence-based, functional, and tailored to individual goals. I am passionate about helping people return to their meaningful roles at home, work, or in leisure activities.

Experience
Throughout my ca I’ve worked in a variety of clinical, educational, and research settings, including:

-
Private and NHS Hand Therapy Services – providing assessment, splinting, and rehabilitation for complex trauma, post-surgical, and chronic upper limb conditions.
-
Private Hospitals and Independent Clinics – developing and leading upper limb rehabilitation services, collaborating with physiotherapists and hand surgeons.
-
Case Management – coordinating rehabilitation for clients with life-changing injuries, focusing on function, psychology, and vocational outcomes.
-
Clinical Education and Training – delivering professional development for physiotherapists and occupational therapists in upper limb rehabilitation.
-
Research and Innovation – contributing to published studies on grip strength assessment and integrating digital technology into rehabilitation.
This blend of hands-on therapy, teaching, and case coordination gives me a unique perspective on recovery — one that bridges clinical precision with real-world function and compassion.
